7 Bays of Huatulco Tour
Playa Marinero is a compact beach located between the massive Zicatela and the working harbor of Bahía Principal, right in the heart of Puerto Escondido. While its famous neighbors get most of the attention, Marinero has its own loyal following among locals and savvy travelers. The beach sits in a partial shelter created by the rocky point that separates it from Bahía Principal. This gives Marinero waves that are significantly more manageable than Zicatela's thundering barrels — making it popular with bodyboarders, beginner-to-intermediate surfers, and confident swimmers. The beach is about 200 meters long, with golden sand and a mix of palm shade and sun. Small restaurants and bars line the back of the beach, serving cold beers, fresh ceviche, and simple Mexican food. The vibe is relaxed and local — less touristy than Carrizalillo, less intense than Zicatela. During calmer periods, the water is swimmable, though you should always respect the ocean here — it's the Pacific, and conditions can change quickly. Lifeguards are sometimes present during high season. Playa Marinero is within easy walking distance of both the Adoquín promenade and the Zicatela strip, making it a convenient stop during a day of exploring Puerto Escondido's coastline. Many visitors walk the entire stretch from Bahía Principal through Marinero to Zicatela — one of the town's most scenic walks.
