“Caught mahi mahi, tuna, and a small marlin in 4 hours. Captain Ricardo knew exactly where to go and the boat was well-equipped. We brought the fish back and a local restaurant cooked it for lunch — best meal of the trip. 10/10 would do again.”

Puerto Escondido was a fishing village long before it became a surf town, and the waters off this coast remain some of the most productive in the Mexican Pacific. The sport fishing tour takes you offshore aboard a private 18–25 ft boat in pursuit of mahi-mahi, yellowfin tuna, sailfish, and marlin — and along the way you may spot sea turtles, rays, dolphins, and even whales.
What to Expect
We pick you up at 6:30 AM from your hotel or Airbnb in Puerto Escondido and drive you to Bahía Principal, where the fishing fleet is already stirring at dawn. Your captain — a lifelong fisherman from Puerto Escondido — briefs you on the day's plan, target species, and current conditions while the crew prepares the boat and tackle.
Once past the breakers, you head for open water. The continental shelf drops steeply off Puerto Escondido's coast, which means big pelagic fish are often found within 30 minutes of shore. The crew sets multiple lines — trolling with both live bait and lures — and assists with hooksets, gaffing, and landing your catch. No fishing experience is needed; the guides work with beginners and seasoned anglers equally.
Choose from three trip lengths: 3 hours, 4 hours, or 5 hours depending on how long you want to be on the water. After fishing, the crew cleans your catch and you can take it to a local restaurant for a catch-and-cook experience.
Detailed Itinerary
Pickup from Your Hotel
Your driver picks you up from your hotel or Airbnb in Puerto Escondido and takes you to Bahía Principal.
Departure from Bahía Principal
Board the boat, meet the captain and crew, and head offshore. The ride out is a chance to watch the sunrise over Puerto Escondido's coastline and spot early-morning dolphins, turtles, and seabirds.
Active Fishing
Three to five hours of trolling, jigging, and live-bait fishing approximately 10 miles offshore over deep water. The crew assists with everything — these waters are rich and slow days are rare. Target species include mahi-mahi, tuna, sailfish, and marlin.
Return to Shore
Head back to Bahía Principal (return time depends on the trip length you chose). The crew cleans your catch on the boat, and there is time for trophy photos on the beach.
Optional — Catch-and-Cook
Take your fresh catch to a local restaurant and have it prepared to your liking. Restaurant fee: approximately 00 USD per person (not included in the tour price).
