A pristine, uncrowded beach about 30 minutes east of Puerto Escondido — named for its striking white rock formation.

Roca Blanca Beach

Roca Blanca (White Rock) is a stunning beach located about 30 kilometers east of Puerto Escondido, named for the dramatic white rock formation that rises from the ocean near the shore. This relatively undiscovered beach offers something increasingly rare on the Mexican Pacific coast: genuine solitude and unspoiled natural beauty. The beach stretches for over a kilometer, with wide golden sand backed by coconut palms and tropical vegetation. The water is warm and inviting, though waves can be powerful — similar to Zicatela. The white rock itself is a striking natural landmark that makes for incredible photography, especially during golden hour. Roca Blanca has a small community of palapa restaurants that serve simple but delicious fresh seafood — grilled fish, shrimp, ceviche — at very affordable prices. A few basic accommodation options exist for those who want to spend the night. The beach is particularly popular for day trips from Puerto Escondido, especially among those seeking an escape from the more populated beaches closer to town. The drive along the coast road is scenic, passing through small villages and palm groves. Roca Blanca is also a nesting site for sea turtles during the July to December season. Local conservation groups protect the nests, and turtle releases sometimes happen on this beach. The area is ideal for those who enjoy raw, undeveloped beach landscapes. There are no resorts, no beach clubs, and no crowds — just ocean, sand, rock, and sky.

What Makes It Special
