South of Puerto Escondido lies a string of coastal villages that each carry a distinct character — from the crocodile-filled lagoons of La Ventanilla to the bohemian freedom of Zipolite and the spiritual cliffs of Punta Cometa. This full-day group tour connects five remarkable stops along one of Mexico's most captivating stretches of Pacific coast, ending with one of the most spectacular sunsets in Oaxaca.

Your experience

What to Expect

We pick you up at 9:30 AM from your hotel or Airbnb in Puerto Escondido in comfortable, air-conditioned vehicles with a certified guide. You head south along the winding coastal highway, stopping at five destinations over the course of the day: La Ventanilla, Mazunte, Zipolite, Puerto Ángel, and Punta Cometa.

Each village has its own atmosphere: La Ventanilla is wild and ecological, Mazunte feels earthy and artisanal, Zipolite is raw and liberated, Puerto Ángel offers crystal-clear swimming, and the crown jewel — Punta Cometa, Oaxaca's southernmost point — delivers a clifftop sunset that stretches endlessly over open ocean. You return to Puerto Escondido by 8:00 PM.

Detailed Itinerary

9:30 AM

Pickup from Your Hotel

Your driver and certified guide pick you up from your hotel or Airbnb in Puerto Escondido. Depart south in air-conditioned vehicles along the coastal highway.

La Ventanilla — Ecological Reserve

Visit the La Ventanilla ecological reserve, where you enter the mangrove lagoon to observe crocodiles in their natural habitat, along with regional flora and fauna including turtles and birds. Entrance to the crocodile center is included.

Mazunte — Magic Town

Explore Mazunte, a designated Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town). Visit the natural cosmetics factory where local cooperatives produce organic skincare from native plants. Enjoy tastings of coffee, chocolate, mole, and mezcal — all locally produced.

Zipolite — Bohemian Beach

Spend free time at Zipolite, famous as Mexico's only official clothing-optional beach and home to a fiercely independent, bohemian community. Alternatively, visit nearby Playa del Amor (Beach of Love) for a more romantic setting. Time to relax, swim, and explore.

Puerto Ángel — Swimming and Local Food

Head to Puerto Ángel for swimming in crystal-clear waters and time to enjoy the local gastronomy — fresh seafood at beachfront restaurants (meals at your own expense).

Punta Cometa — Sunset

Hike the short trail to Punta Cometa, Oaxaca's southernmost cliff, and watch the sun set over the Pacific from one of the most dramatic viewpoints on the entire coast. During winter months (December–March), you may spot humpback whales breaching offshore.

8:00 PM

Return to Puerto Escondido

Drive back along the coast and arrive at your accommodation by approximately 8:00 PM.
